In the teacher assignments, it is seen that the classes with over 50 students will need to more extensive attention when it comes to differentiation and individualized learning. Also the AB courses will have more content to cover over time so it is vital that the pacing is set in advanced and that there is constant communication to ensure that the students are keeping up. Lastly being that all the classes are starting on the same day, it is vital that the teacher is prepared.
In the roster, it is clear that the teacher had several students that need special attention when planning for instruction. two students will need 504 accommodations and one student will require time for accelerations since she is gifted. The students also have different session lengths, so it is important to ensure that students who have less weeks, still get all the required content that is needed to be learned.
In this communication log, the teacher sends out general information to all students in the class and well as individual information about things such as low grades. The communication about a low grade was done fairly early in the course to ensure that the teacher can get an understanding for why the low grade has occurred. This gives the student the opportunity to have enough time to make the necessary changes or drop the course.
The chart above shows the views the students do on the LMS on certain dates. Looking at the chart, certain students should be contacted due to not completing/viewing the lesson at all. In addition, certain student have very high volume days with very low volume days, it's vital that students understand the importance of pacing themselves to ensure that they are learning all the content but in a way that most beneficial for the student to retain the information. The students with the highest grades consistently log in daily and have an high amount of usage each day. After two weeks, the teacher should look at the usage data and contact any students with low usage or inconsistent usage. When communicating, a plan should be provided with details and goals about how many much the student should progress daily, weekly, and monthly.
This report gives the grade as well as important feedback to the student to ensure they understand their progress on the assignment, what needs to be fixed, and how they go about fixing it. the second assignment is blank, so the student either has not turned it in, or it hasn't been graded. Also, the overall grade is listed at the top so the student can see how their current grades on assignments are affecting their overall average.
This feedback shows the results from a student's attempt to answer a multiple choice assessment. The questions shown were both answered incorrectly, but the correct answer is not given. This allows the student to take the time and research the correct answer which will lead to a greater likelihood of the student retaining the information.
This feedback allows students a quick snapshot of multiple assignments sent through a dropbox, a tool that allows students to share files with teachers. The grades are given and the feedback is available through the comment tools. this is ideal when a assignment needs to be done independently and not through the LMS.
This is the feedback for the specific assignment listed above. It gives the student information on her assignment as well as what needs to be done to improve her grade and receive a perfect score. The bullet information allows the student to quickly over through the errors within the document and correct the mistakes.
1) Adjusted Instructional Plan:
As the teacher, I would look at the students who have low averages in the class due to low usage of the LMS. I would organize individual conferences and set goals that the student must make when it comes to the amount of hours a student is logged in and actively participating in the learning paths. Also, to assist the students with IEPs and any additional accommodations for the classroom, I will ensure to have conferences with each student to ensure that they have the best chance to be successful in the online setting.
2) Data in Online Instruction:
I would use the results from the assignments to decide if any lessons need to be altered when it came to differentiating for students needs. Some students will need remediation and others (especially the gifted) will need opportunities to accelerate in the content. Also data can be the deciding factor to how the live sessions would be organized. Certain groups can be scheduled on certain days to ensure that every student gets the instruction and support they need to be successful.
3)Advantages of Data:
For teachers who don't use data, they have a very big disadvantage, because they don't have any insight on their students knowledge or if they are learning, growing, or understanding the content. The best practice is to consistently monitor your students' progress and intervene, when the data shows the need. If the teacher doesn't monitor, they will be clueless of the students' needs until it is too late.
